Weight Plates for UK Home Gyms

Our weight plates are all 2" Olympic sleeve, so they fit any 2" Olympic barbell — ours or otherwise. We stock three types: cast iron, bumper, and tri-grip, each suited to slightly different training.

Choosing Between Plate Types

Type Best for
Cast iron General strength training and cost-per-kg value
Olympic bumper Deadlifts and Olympic-style lifts where you may drop the bar
Tri-grip Loading and unloading solo — the cut-out grips make plates easier to carry and rack

Not sure which suits you? Our bumper vs cast iron plates guide covers the trade-offs in detail.

Buy With a Barbell

Every plate set can be bought with a matching 2" Olympic barbell and clips at checkout, in 4ft, 5ft or 6ft lengths, so you can order a complete bar-and-plate setup in one go rather than sourcing them separately. See our Home Gym Bundles collection for these and other rack, dumbbell and barbell combinations in one place.

FAQs

Will these plates fit my existing barbell?

They're all standard 2" Olympic sleeve, so they'll fit any 2" Olympic barbell. If your bar has a 1" sleeve, you'll need 1" plates instead — these won't fit.

How many plates do I need to start?

Most beginners start with a modest set (a few pairs of smaller plates) and add heavier pairs as they progress, rather than buying a full heavy set upfront.

Cast iron or bumper plates — what's the difference?

Cast iron is solid metal and generally better value; bumper plates have a rubber outer layer designed to be dropped safely, which matters if you're doing deadlifts or Olympic lifts from height.

Where can I buy cast iron plates in the UK?

Right here — our cast iron plates come in the standard 2" Olympic sleeve size, sold individually or as part of a set with a matching barbell. See the cast iron options above, or compare them against bumper and tri-grip plates in our bumper vs cast iron plates guide if you're not sure which type suits your training.
